The mini butterfly dress is knitted from the top down in stockinette stitch with double thread Tynn Line from Sandnes Garn, or a similar yarn with the same knitting tension. First, knit the upper part of the shoulders, with increases towards the neck. Then pick up the stitches that you first started with and knit the back piece, with increases towards the neck. When you have knitted two “equal” parts that are mirrored, gather these and knit in the round. Before knitting the skirt, cast off the upper part and pick up twice as many stitches. To get a nice width on the skirt, increase in several rounds. Pick up for ruffles along the opening of the armhole. The ruffles on the sleeves are knitted separately, and finished with a nice folded edge. Finally, pick up stitches around the neck opening in single thread Tynn Line. This is knitted double, folded and knitted or sewn in like the other folded edges.
Knit a swatch to find the needle size that gives the correct knitting tension. Note that the knitting tension is stated after the dress has been rinsed.
Sizes
The stated measurement of the waist is before the dress is worn. It will adapt to the body, and will tend to “grow” about 6 cm without spoiling the expression. You can therefore “add” 6 cm to the waist stated in the pattern. After washing, the dress will “shrink” again and approach the measurements stated in the pattern. The length of the dress will remain more or less constant. The sizes correspond to common European sizes.
