My name is Lene Viste Bjørheim, and I'm the person behind Leneknit, my creative universe filled with yarn, knitting designs, and lots of knitting joy!
I live in Stavanger with my husband, Andreas, and I'm a mom to five boys. By day, I work as a teacher at a junior high school, but as soon as I have a free moment, you'll usually find me with knitting needles in my hands.
I actually knit every single day, and I have no plans to stop! 😉
Although I've knitted on and off throughout my life, it wasn't until around age 40 that I really discovered how much joy knitting brought me. Since then, it has taken up an increasingly larger place in my life.
From a school assignment to my own knitting universe
Did you know that my design adventure started in the classroom?
In 2019, I was teaching art and crafts and gave my students an assignment: They were to design and knit their own headwear and write a one-size knitting pattern.
As a teacher, I thought I should try the assignment myself first. Little did I know that this exact assignment would be the start of something so fun!
I discovered the joy of creating my own designs, and since then, ideas have practically been lined up. What started as a school assignment gradually developed into Leneknit and a passion that has only grown. 🥰
Knitting patterns with room for both mastery and challenges
One of the things I like best is creating patterns for different knitters and different knitting moments.
Sometimes a simple project where the stitches just flow over the needles is tempting. Other times I want to play with textures, lace patterns, cables, and exciting details. I love ruffles and feminine details, but also simple and classic, and preferably a combination!
In the online store, you will therefore find both beginner-friendly patterns, such as several of the designs in the Line series, and projects with more techniques and challenges, such as the Glitter series and the Thalia series.
For me, knitting should bring joy and mastery, regardless of what level you are at. Maybe it's exactly the teacher in me that comes out when I write patterns? 😉
I place great emphasis on good explanations and clear descriptions. That's why you will also find tutorial videos in my patterns, so you can get help when you get stuck or want to learn a new technique. I want you to experience the joy of mastering something new and have fun along the way!
Design inspired by everyday life
New designs often start with a garment I want in my own wardrobe, or something I want to knit for the family.
With five boys, it has naturally become many designs for both big and little boys. Every now and then, cute designs for girls also pop up, often after a little encouragement from my talented test knitters! 😅💕
I love the whole creative process, from the first little idea to the choice of yarn, gauge swatches, and new solutions. And yes, there's a lot of frogging here too!
But that's part of the beauty of knitting: We can try again, make small adjustments, and discover that the result is even nicer than we had imagined. That feeling is quite fantastic!
Knitting joy, both at home and in the mountains 🧶
When I'm not at work or working on a new design, I love spending time with the family. We enjoy ourselves well in the mountains, and the knitting bag is of course always with us!
I find inspiration in nature, in colors, in yarn, and in small details that make me want to try something new.
My big dream is to spend even more time on what I love: being creative, developing new designs, and sharing the knitting joy with others.
