PATTERN

Diva Dress is an elegant and timeless dress. The dress is knitted from the top down. You first work back and forth until the neckline shaping is complete, before the work is joined and knitted in the round.

Increases are worked on the right side before and after the shoulder stitches, while a V-neck is shaped at the same time. Further increases are then worked inside the sleeve stitches, alongside continued increases for the neckline. Once the correct number of stitches for the front has been reached, the front pieces are knitted together and the work continues in the round.

To ensure a great fit, further increases are worked as a classic raglan on the sleeves as well as on the front and back pieces. When the correct number of stitches for the sleeves has been reached, the sleeve stitches are placed on hold. The body and skirt are then knitted with increases to give a flattering fit.

The dress is bound off with an i-cord edge. The sleeves are knitted in the round in stocking stitch and are also bound off with an i-cord. Finally, stitches are picked up around the neckline and bound off with an elegant i-cord edge.

I recommend trying the dress on as you go along in the knitting process. Also take note of how your gauge swatch has changed after soaking/blocking, and factor this in as you knit. This way you can knit the perfect garment for your body. If you want to knit the dress longer, you will need to buy more yarn.

The pattern is long, and some people like to read the whole pattern before starting. Feel free to do so, but my biggest recommendation is to read this pattern section by section, sentence by sentence — and before you know it, you're done.

Size guide

A bust measurement of approximately 80-85 (85-90) 90-95 (95-100) 100-110 (110-120) 120-130 (130-140) cm corresponds to size XS (S) M (L) XL (2XL) 3XL (4XL). Recommended ease of approx. 5-15 cm. This means that if you measure approx. 90 cm around the bust, you should knit a size S. Measure yourself before you start knitting.

Feel free to knit a gauge swatch before you start, to check that your gauge is correct. Note that the gauge is given after the dress has been soaked.

Yarn alternatives:

The mohair yarn can easily be swapped for Paia from Filcolana or Brillino from Lana Grossa if you want even more sparkle and glamour. If you prefer a calmer look, you can use Tynn Line from Sandnes Garn. Cosmo can easily be swapped for Merino 22 from Dale Garn. If you want to knit the dress longer, allow for more yarn.
